Ideal Weight Calculator
Height drives most “ideal weight” estimates. We show four classic clinical formulas in kg, a BMI band (18.5–24.9), and an average — then optionally nudge for self-reported frame size.

Why more than one formula?
Clinicians once used “ideal body weight” to size drug doses and ventilator settings. Devine (1974), Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi each publish a linear rule based on height above five feet — they agree in the middle but diverge at tall and short extremes. Showing all four highlights uncertainty: there is no single divine number, only a band.
BMI 18.5–24.9 marks a population-level healthy range for many adults; it is not perfect for muscular athletes or older adults with sarcopenia. Better markers include waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, and body-fat percentage from DEXA or skilled skinfold testing — when available.
Frame size here is a simple ±7% nudge around the average of formulas — a coarse stand-in for bone breadth, not diagnostic. If your weight and activity feel good and labs are fine, a chart should not override lived experience — but sudden unintended weight change still warrants medical review.

Frequently asked questions
Why do the classic formulas disagree?
Each equation was derived from different populations and decades, so they spread around a central band. Showing all four highlights uncertainty rather than a single true number.
Can I see pounds or stone?
Use the unit tabs above the results—kilograms, pounds, or stone plus pounds. Your choice can be remembered on this device where the page implements storage.
What about children and teens?
Pediatric growth uses percentile charts, not these adult regression formulas—this page targets adults.
Is ideal weight the same as healthy weight?
Not always. Muscle mass, bone structure, and health conditions matter beyond a formula. Use BMI bands and these estimates as context, not diagnosis.
Does frame size change the recommendation?
Optional frame adjustment nudges the band when you select small, medium, or large frame based on wrist measurement guidance on the page.
Are measurements uploaded?
No. Math runs locally in your browser.
